Although this specific case seems to be a gross miscalculation, dont think 4 year olds are all innocent! I cant tell you how many deadbeat loser parents i've run across that teach their kids to steal so they dont get in trouble. I regularly run into parents who use their toddlers as mules to smuggle stuff out of stores. It happens. In no way is it the kids fault, but hey, it is what it is. On the contrary, using the elderly to smuggle drugs across the country is becoming more and more popular. Stuff Nanny and Papaw's RV full of cocaine, and a LEO may not give them a second look. With the state of our economy, people are getting desperate. It no longer the usual suspects who are into this stuff. I just feel bad for the kids. (And let me re-state my first sentence...this particular case seems straight up stupid...i'm just elaborating a little on the more common uses of young children and the elderly to do the dirty work)

Be aware that the Geheime Staatspolizei were there to protect the German People from terrorists and criminals also...until the German people themselves started being mass arrested for any violations, were frightened and beaten into compliance, and started disappearing into camps and shot for non-compliance.
Seems right now the TSA and our lovely elected government is happy to be at the frighten, beat and arrest stage, but sooner or later that will change also.

That happened here..... and it is NOT going over very well at all. The TSA response, is not getting it... no one is buying it.
This is not a major hub airport by any means. There aren't thousands and thousands of passengers every day.

Airport security doesn't bother me one bit. I sure the heck am not going to stop flying (seeing the world) because of it.

There was an easy solution for this stupidity, but being a cop myself, I can see exactly what happened here. They got their prissy little "I am the boss" feelings hurt and jacked the people up to prove their power....sort of like most rookies need to make sure that the badge actually works.
Instead of all those jackwagons pulling the over the top stuff, how bout we just ask Grandma and the little girl to walk back through the freaking metal detector with the bear one at a time. If it goes off again on one of them again, THEN do the modified pat down. Simple. Done. No issue!
I have seen metal detectors go off for no reason at all quite often. That is why the are called metal detectors, not weapon detectors.
I am aware that there are plenty of sick, twisted adults who will have their kids mule things. That is not the issue here. The issue was treating the family like criminals when all they had was a metal detector go off from what I see.
What is happening here is a lack of common sense on the TSA's part, or, on the more sinister side, the conditioning of Americans to accept and submit to illegal, unethical, immoral and just plain Un-American treatment.
I think our ancestors in the early to late 1700's would have been holding loud meetings by now demanding the King revoke the numerous acts that have been forced upon us....... See below from our Declaration of Independence with my additions

For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States: (TSA - we did nothing wrong and nothing more is done)
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent: (Ever really looked at the taxes you pay? Cannot wait for them to tax guns and ammunition by fiat order? Get ready...)
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury: (You are a terrorist or suspected terrorist....no more guns for you and off to prison)
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offenses: (Hello Guantanamo Bay....)
