Dying 12 year old boy sworn in
I had trouble reading this story, screen got all fuzzy and blurry.
Jose Rubio-Pavon is 12 years old, and has an inoperable brain tumor.
He recently told his family he always wanted to be a police officer. On Monday Brighton PD swore him in as a special officer and gave him an actual uniform shirt and certificate right there in his hospice room.
Due to the story running on policeone.com, a bunch of us are mailing department patches to the Brighton PD. They are getting flooded with patches, shirts, badges, etc to take to his hospice room to try to bring a little joy to this new Officer and his family.

Words can't express my feelings when I read a story like this...The only thing I can say is that that young man is special, and so are the folks of the Brighton PD. When the time comes, may the Man upstairs cradle him in his arms and give peace to his family.
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

I don’t think there is anything harder than a parent watching their child die and can't do anything about it.
May they find the strength to deal with it

I saw this yesterday on PO, got a bit dusty in here. I don't have a patch to send but was thinking of sending on of my association "courtesy" cards.

God bless him, and give strength and peace to his parents. This is the way I remember police for the most part, now days you only hear about the bad.

I am glad I had my box of tissues at hand. This was both sweet and sad. God Bless those LEOs for their kindness and compassion. Prayers to the little Officer and his family. It is so sad when children have to go through this final journey...for the child....for the parents....for all of us.

Who keeps putting this stuff on the forum?
I hate it when my wife asks me if I have something in my eye...
What a great story...

KEWL ..... hope he gets a ton of patches.
Emailed some folks around the country that I am friends with, and I hope this will add some patches to his collection.
Congrats to the Police Dept for doing this for him.

What a great twist to a sad story. Hats off to the Brighton PD for making his dream come true despite his short time with us on Earth! That is a PD that believes in serving the community!

I just felt that I had to do something. I didn't have any patches or anything to send, but I did go to the Brighton PD website and found the chief's email to send a note to commend the department and officers on their community policing commitment.
You can find the email address here if you are interested: City of Brighton, Colorado / Office of the Chief of Police
Chief is OOO. Copy the admin and assistant if you choose to send a note.
