Fantastic, and heartrending. Those pictures are very deserving of the awards. The article is extremely powerful and to be recommended too.

It is hard to respond to such a power set of photos. All I can think of is this quote:

RIP Marine. Unfortunately, this saying seems to be too true: "The US military is at war; America is at the mall."
Just one more reason I'm proud to be a Marine. Rest in peace, brother.
Moving images. I have a great respect for all members of our military, but as a former Corpsman the Marine Corps is near and dear to my heart.
Somehow, I missed this when it first posted.
Words can't express what I feel when viewing the picturs and also, it's hard to type when your vision is blurred by tears.
fortiter in re, suaviter in modo (resolutely in action, gently in manner).
Great Posting. God Bless our troops and their families
I haven't been as moved since I visited the Vietnam Memorial during Veterans Day a couple of years ago. As I approached the wall and saw the fellow vets at the Wall, I am not ashamed to admit that I broke down and could not control the tears and sobs that came from me. Awesome. Thank you.

Ron - I make no excuses for (yet again) posting ''reflections''.
Even the sight of this mere image is enough to get a throat lump. It is so so powerful to me.

I hadn't see those.
Powerful to say the least.

40FIVER... Thanks for the link to Rocky Mountain News.
I have gotten those two pics in email a time or two in emails over the past year with just a caption.
Reading the Pulitzer Prize winning story in the Rock Mountain News was one of the most compelling features I have ever read. Maj. Beck USMC epitomizes the bond of what it means to be a Marine.
A part of me, many years removed now I am as proud today as I was then.
Semper Fi, you fallen comrades... Semper Fi, and Rest in Peace!
