One year ago today

One year ago the camp that I was on, Combat Outpost Shocker, was destroyed by a rocket attack carried out by the local Hezbollah Brigade. The camp was 3 klicks from the Iranian border.

Up to four IRAM's (Improvised Rocket Assisted Munitions/Mortars) were fired at the camp with at least three that exploded hitting the area of the gym, command cell and living areas. These munitions are basically a 5 or 10 gallon propane tank filled with explosives attached to a rocket motor.

I had turned over security of the camp the day before to the Army unit stationed there. The military had just completed handing over the camp to the Iraqi Army and were scheduled to leave in the next 8-12 hours.

The friends and coworkers I lost that day are gone but not forgotten.

Not religious but I do appreciate your service and I'm glad that this country has brave, honorable young men like you and your fallen comrades.

My thoughts are with you on this day of recognition. My prayers are for you and safe return home. I know you'll be bringing all of them home when you do.
