Charlie Sheen Promises $1 Miilion to U.S.O.
Charlie Sheen to donate $1 million to USO - TODAY Entertainment
Suspect his motivations or not it still great to see private resources used to help those we owe so much.
The "Anger Management" star announced Monday that he will donate $1 million to the United Service Organizations (USO), which will go toward an entertainment facility for injured troops in Bethesda, Md. The donation will mark the largest single contribution from an individual in the organization's history.
"It's an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us,” Sheen said of the donation. “They put their lives on the line for us every day, and I'm just happy that my work on 'Anger Management' can bring a little bit of relief to the troops and their families."
The actor has pledged to donate 1 percent of the profits from his FX comedy "Anger Management" to the USO, with a guaranteed $1 million minimum. The first installment of $250,000 will be donated in a private ceremony next week.

Sounds like he's trying to polish some of the tarnish off of his name.

Get it to a high sheen?
Seriously, though. It's nice to see him using a bit of his insane income on something...well...not insane.

Hopefully he'll follow through on his pledge. Either way he's still a jerk.

Gotta' hand it to a guy who's willing to donate a week's salary to the USO.

The USO provided much enjoyment during my time in the service. Anyone who donates to it moves up a notch on my list, jerk or not. That's more than most "Hollywood celebrities" are willing to do, even though they profit from portraying military members.

Any follow up?
I'm not seeing any press announcments that he even donated the first installment (he might of, I just can't find it).
Any of you smarter Search users find a follow up?
Commander In Chief House (CINC-House and I spend time at the two major airport USOs picking up service members when the weather socks them in).
The USO rocks! Especially when you are really young, stuck in some place you don't know, and it is a place to lean on to at least find security from the big bad world!
Oh, and God Bless Bob Hope! Met him twice. Absolutely the BEST!
Edit add - You know Chesty Puller was the first person to offer Bob Hope a drink when he arrived 'up there'!

I found no evidence. The original release said the first check was to be released later the week of July 17th and that Mr. Sheen would not be attending.

He was in Cincinnati last weekend with is father, he matched a fundraiser dollar for dollar at the Reds game, around 30K. I do think he has cleaned up his act, to what extent I don't know. Anyway, the USO can use the bucks. If he doesn't follow through we'll know soon enough.
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

It was $50,000 to the Red's Community Fund actually, matching the donations raised so that Marty would shave his head at Friday's game.
I'd like to see him follow through on the USO pledge too.

Never thought much of him at all. Patrick Swayzee crying in Red Dawn is more convincing than Sheens acting in anything. I did like Red Dawn though and Men At Work was kind of funny.
Hopefully he will keep true to his word. Otherwise like the saying, he can stand in front of the troops. Doubt he will be missed.
