Some fun with the MK 19 in Afghanistan

Got the chance to go out to the long range and have a little fun with the MK 19 Grenade Launcher and the .50 cal. As you can see from the video there is nothing for miles except mountains.

Looks like fun. I'd love a chance to play with a MK19.

Man I miss those things. If they'd let me mount a Mk19 on my H3 I may reenlist today. Sometimes it is hard to let go of the creature comforts.

I about **** my pants the first time a mk 19 I was firing jammed. It is a crazy idea thinking of a live granade falling into your truck. ideally it is a 2 person job to clear those jams. They are fun to shoot.

IIRC the 40mm grenade has to spin for something like 30 metres before it is armed, had an instructor say that if you spin it by hand then they wull arm sooner, didn't want to find out.
During training it never failed that several people didn't align sights correctly to get the arc and when they fired the grenade would impact the ground about about 30 feet out and skip along the ground until it stopped, later on after the lesson was over we had to go sandbag all the live grenades for EOD disposal later

Yep it was a good day to be able to fire them both. Next up is the GE Minigun. That will be a blast.

Cool video. What kind of sound does that produce? Doesn't sound too loud in the video and I don't see any ear plugs....just curious.

Microphone pickup and computer speakers never do reality justice when it comes to gunfire or the like. Looks like fun.

The MK-19 was rather quiet. No hearing protection required. Behind the .50 I did not need it either. Now beside the .50 that was another story.
