Gee I didn't find flippig off the Tomb Of The Unknown soldier funny, do you?

Lindsey Stone, a non-profit employee in Massachusetts, posted a photo on her Facebook page she claims she meant as a joke among friends. Little did she know that thousands of people would be offended by her pose in front of the Tomb of the Unknowns, even creating a Facebook page called, "Fire Lindsey Stone."
And sure enough when her employer found out, she was put on unpaid leave pending an internal investigation.
Stone's photo shows her flipping off a sign and appearing to shout at the tomb in Washington, D.C., that asks for "Silence and Respect" at the Arlington National Cemetery. Stone and her co-workers were on a work trip last month when the photo was taken.
After people posted comments critical of Stone, she posted: "Whoa whoa whoa... wait. This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general. Much like the pic posted the night before, of me smoking right next to a no smoking sign. OBVIOUSLY we meant NO disrespect to people that serve or have served our country."
Stone, who is around 30-years-old, could not be reached for comment.
Over 18,000 people have "liked" the "Fire Lindsey Stone" Facebook page, which was created earlier this week.
The National Labor Relations Board has issued two recent rulings saying a company's social media policy can be "overly broad" but also stating that social media postings are not protected under federal labor law.
Robert Johnson, army veteran and military and defense editor at news site, Business Insider, wrote an op-ed, saying he felt "compelled to defend her."
"More importantly, if Lindsey Stone wants to rip on the Tomb of the Unknowns, me, my service, or the hundreds of mutilated troops I served with at Walter Reed Medical Center, she should be able to do so without fear of retribution," Johnson wrote. "Freedom like that is what we fought for, and respecting other opinions is part of what the militray tried to teach all of us who served."
Stone and another employee issued an apology on Wednesday, saying, "We sincerely apologize for all the pain we have caused by posting the picture we took in Washington DC on Facebook. While posted on a public forum, the picture was intended only for our own amusement. We never meant any disrespect to any of the people nationwide who have served this country and defended our freedom so valiantly. It was meant merely as a visual pun, intending to depict the exact opposite of what the sign said, and had absolutely nothing to do with the location it was taken or the people represented there."

On Wednesday, a spokeswoman for her employer, LIFE, Inc., which stands for Living Independently Forever, said Stone is still on unpaid leave, pending an investigation. The non-profit stands by a statement issued this week:
"On Nov. 19 at approximately 6 p.m., we became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page. The photo was taken at a national historic site in October by a fellow employee during a trip to Washington, D.C. attended by 40 residents and eight staff. The photo has since been removed from Facebook, and both employees have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation."
"This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation's veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service. The men and women who have selflessly fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and lives of Americans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We are acutely aware that this photo has done a grave disservice to veterans and we are deeply saddened

Her sorry attempt at an apology is not accepted! At least her employer is smart on this issue, since she did this on company travel and time (company expense).

As a reflection on how 'dim' she is, she stated that she actually thought this would be funny! Go figure.

The bad and sad reality of this is that we taxpayers will now be funding her as unemployed, so she can venture forth and find more 'funny' things to post to the internet.

As an American and an honorably discharged veteran, I find Lindsey's actions to be disgraceful. On the other hand I see more and more of these disgraceful acts becoming acceptable behavior. It is a sad world we live in.

No, I see no humor at all in her actions or whomever posted the disgusting thing on the internet to begin with. Oh yeah, in your last sentance. Were the words 'a grave disservice" intentional? Made me chuckle.

It irks me to see people wearing flags, etc, but it's their right to do so; however she did this on work time and her actions reflect on her employer as well as herself. I also support the employer's right to not employ people who don't represent their company as desired, especially while at work. Kinda like the discussion about shooting a home invader - there's a difference btwn could and should.

In America she certainly has the freedom to "express herself", not matter how repugnant that form of expression may be. That right has been defended by nearly ten generations of American patriots.

We also have the right in this great country of ours to decry her actions and publicly excoriate her. I wish her no permanent ill will, but I hope she benefits from learning how offensive her ignorant, "all about me" actions were.

It is a sad world we live in today. I have total respect for our Military, past and present. These young warriors deserve all the respect we can give. This young lady has no idea how many brave young Americans have gave their life so she can pull a stunt like this and not be shot for it....just sayin

I heard this while I was AD. "I may not like what you have to say, but I will defend your right to say it." I think she got it right that her and her friends are douche bags, she probably never has been called on it before this. I don't like her actions, and the employer certainly has the right to investigate actions on a company trip. I think her apology is about the employer, and not what she did.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt

When I served I did defend her right to express herself but I also have the right to refer to her as a disrespectful childish fool.

As a veteren, I stood the watch to defend everyones freedom, even her freedom of speech and expression. I also reserve the right to to blast her butt for it as well.

This is a case of 'the stupid shall be punished'. I just looked up the FB page, her employer has announced her termination there... Fire Lindsey Stone | Facebook

We wish to announce that the two employees recently involved in the Arlington Cemetery incident are no longer employees of LIFE. Again, we deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families. The incident and publicity has been very upsetting to the learning disabled population we serve. To protect our residents, any comments, however well-intentioned, will be deleted. We appreciate your concern and understanding as we focus on the care of our community.
The sponser of the FB page said the page will be closed after the two girls are fired.

Bye..Bye. The sad truth is the Anti-American underpeople will prop her up as a hero, and she will be probably so weak as a person and will ablige. Afterall, now that she created her own doom, she can't own it, she will become yet another politicized so called 'Victim' to extort.
