    daycare survival?

So today there is a letter in our mailbox at daycare that all children will be required to have a disaster/survival kit on hand. Items must include a space blanket, glow sticks, food to be replaced every six months, medical supplies, and a letter from parents that can be read to the children to comfort them. Seemed odd to me. This is a major daycare chain in the area. Ive already figured what my letter will say, "DADDYS ON THE WAY"

Makes some sense, I'd say. Though, I don't think I agree with forcing it via edict.

Parents generally have a "to-go" bag of sorts, when out and about with small kids. Seems sensible to have true necessities in there as well. And when the parents aren't with the kid? The kid still has the need to get through basic situations, just like anyone else. Seems appropriate, then, to get the kid used to bringing along a reasonable bag of "survival" stuff. As well, selection of a daycare/babysitting/school type environment should always include questions about their preparations for and understanding of how to withstand likely basic scenarios that could impact the kids.

Hmmmm, a friend of mine who lives in Texas, daycare (for her son) won't let them draw pictures because boys draw pictures with tanks, guns, bombs, swords, you know boy stuff.

I like some aspects of this. Shouldn't be mandated, but I remember as a kid enjoying bringing my earthquake kit (gallon bag of food) and then eating it at the end of the year! My note would say the same thing OP!

I suppose age actually makes no difference in the grand scheme of things....
