    snopes.com: Sheriff Judd's Comments
This is an older story but shows the level of care needed by police making traffic stops . Sad that an officer and K-9 dog died .
Priceless on the way the Sheriff answered questions to the media .

...I'll lift a glass to justice...the "couldn't they have taken him alive" folks will be along at any minute...
...this type of killer is more common than folks want to admit...heartless, merciless, inhuman...we had better spend some time learning how vicious they can be...or we'll be unprepared to win against them...

Moved to Military, Law Enforcement and Homeland. Nothing in this story about armed civilians.

I live in this county. Sheriff Grady Judd is well loved by many (including myself) and makes it well known that it's not advisable to break the law in Polk. He has supported home owner shootings that the media tried to make a sympathy case about.

This was a HUGE case to put it mildly. Matt Williams is still to is day often brought up here in Polk. He's never been forgotten, not only by law enforcement, but by many of the citizens here. "A hero remembered never dies" could be a county motto. That scumbag, not only wounded Matt, he put a couple rounds in him point blank to finish him off. It was tense while he was loose in the woods.... I remember well the sigh of relief everyone has when PCSO took him out & when the media tried to make a big to do about the number of times the BG was shot, Sheriff Judd made no apologies. He was dangerous. He already proved he was a cop killer. Why take any chances?

Has Sheriff Judd ever met Sheriff Arpaio?

Well - I've seen other articles on this. The Perp was in the woods, and possibly a well covered postion, behind logs/down trees, and shooting. The LEO had no choice but to apply a very ample volume of fire to suppress/disable the Perp. The LEO did what they were paid to do, and did it without risk to another LEO or dog asset being killed! Good to go! Overkill was warrented here, in my opinion. Heck if I had armed air support in that situation .............. well...(in a past world) ... 'Call Sign of Me' to 'Call Sign of aircraft'...'nine line brief or digital - depended - of attack .. a couple of Rogers on Checkpoint Inbound and visual ....MK-82 LGB...."Wings Level"..."Cleared Hot" ...."Immediate reattack authorized"..... just sayin.

The fact that he was not hit more than 70 times means one of two things to me:

    1) Not every 'one' of the multitude of 100ds of rounds shot by LEO hit him, and lets give the LEO the benefit of the doubt at a 20% (very high, I know) hit rate. Anyone do math around here? How many rounds were 'all that we had'?

    2) Every round that hit the Perp was money well spent! Every round that almost hit the Perp were better money to suppress and hold him into a kill sac!

There was an incident a couple years ago where a drunk man barged into a home through the screen door when the homeowner opened the door to tell him to leave. The drunk man was trying to pick a fight, the homeowner shot & killed him. It was actually the homeowner's second shooting...

The family of the dead man & the media tried to raise a sympathy case. The guy was drunk... He was confused...he was at the wrong house... Grady Judd said if there was ever a justified shooting, this is one. Basically, drunk is no excuse & if you come into someone's home you may pay the ultimate price. Shut the local media right up.

At times, Grady Judd can be a smidge over the top. But at the end of the day there's no one else I'd rather have as top of PCSO. He's overwhelmingly voted in every time it's reelection time, lol often no one bothers to run against him....

It's silly & makes me giggle but as a fundraiser awhile back the sheriff's office was selling posters...

Yes, this is a very old story, but Sheriff Grady Judd is a legend in these parts.
Currently, he's setting up stings for child molesters. Amazing how stupid some sicko's are.
I'd vote for him for congress in a heartbeat. He's fair, but don't cross the line.

Raise a gun from the dead cop you slayed at a dozen cops coming to arrest you, and you get what you get. Suicide by cop, pretty much. Good riddance, it would seem.

Poor "Mexican" or not, I can't imagine the facts or lack of worry over it would have changed much had the guy been from, say, Iceland or Burkina Faso. Doesn't really matter, nor did it matter his citizenship was elsewhere. Just mattered he was a murderer who'd outlived his usefulness.

Why 68 rounds? 'Cause none of the other of the 110 struck him. 'Cause there wasn't another deputy in the cordon. 'Cause he'd already gone down by that time. Saved money, that ~$30 bullet budget. Very effective use of resources. Thank you, deputies.

This thread post was never intended to be about , Mexicans , or any (race) person other then a Bad Guy that clearly broke the law by "Killing" he deserved exactly what he got . The story to me had more importance as the one dead deputy and the K-9 dog . And a brave sheriff that stood up to the media and takes no crap . We need more people in this world that have morals and that are set on right and wrong not on color . Illegal aliens are a different forum and a different place .IMO
