Sadly, very sadly, I think there are (and maybe always have been) fake seals, fbi, cia, da, docs, financial advisers, and so on.
There is a sub-set of human not satisfied with being who they are, and accomplished at the telling of fabricated stories to the gullible.

Some of these folks unfortunately manage to talk themselves into very important positions because others fail to pick up on the lies.

There was a police chief in a very small city in our county that was hired without a thorough background/ vetting process that managed to fool quite a few people for a couple of years before he was caught and subsequently fired and prosecuted.

This doesn't bother me much. Sure it's unethical and people that do this lack something in their character but, people lie.

I saw a truck on the road a couple of weeks ago that had a sticker on the window that suggested the driver was a Navy Seal. At first I thought "wow, that's pretty awesome." And then I wondered if a real Navy Seal would want to draw attention to himself like that. It's just my opinion, but it seems to me that most of those guys are usually low key and quietly confident with nothing to prove to anyone but themselves.

If you went through the torcher and all the hard work that one must to call themselves a SEAL it is likely you would be very pissed to see someone calling themselves a SEAL that sets on their couch all day long with a remote in one hand and a bag of chips in the other and has never accomplished anything noteable in their life. It bothers me and I have never done anything remotely that hard.

Well, there are even fake citizens. Even way up the chain of command. They should be exposed too.

Then there are times when watching or reading the news that it feels like there are more fake Americans than real ones too.

When I worked prison intake you saw all kinds of Seals, Rangers,Tunnel Rats, and Death Star Commandos. The real vets I worked with were not amused.

Yes, in the US, you can claim to be a SEAL, or Ranger, Marine Recon, Pararescue, or Delta, and just about anything else you wish. Why? Because those folks fought for your right of Freedom of Speech to ensure that you could be a moron and claim that you were something that you were not.

That's not what freedom of speech means, you know.

Not sayin' they should be prosecuted. And the scotus took care of that anyway. But certainly those same folks, like Shipley, have the freedom to expose these people.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go polish my six congressional medals of honor.

I worked with a guy once, as a bartender, that claimed to be a SEAL. It was so glaringly obvious that he was nothing of the sort. But, it didn't stop him from bragging with fabricated stories. All it did was make me lose respect for him.
