Is the FBI going to a 9mm duty handgun?

I read on another forum that the FBI just contracted for 9mm ammunition for Glock and Sig handguns. Does anyone knoe if they are going back to a 9mm for a duty handgun.

Well, one certainly could understand the desire to have a modern & more capable caliber. No need for them to be like some old moss back, who refuses to get with the times.

    Lol. Oh, I enjoyed that!

Who cares. I don't make my choice of defense rounds by what the FBI does.

The FBI uses other platforms that use the 9mm, think MP-5 and such.

More than likely, if they do, it will be for cost consideration rather than caliber effectiveness. The number of variables that affect stopping efficiency are too numerous, arbitrary and infrequent to change for anything but changes sake.

Is the 9mm the best round for all situations? Probably not. Is any other caliber best for all situations? Probably not. Does change put money in somebody's pocket? Quite likely.

They're just saying they are switching to the 9mm so it doesn't look odd when they purchase 2 billion rounds of 9mm "for training purposes" and cause another ammo shortage in the civilian market.

FWIW I was talking to an FBI acquaintance a few weeks ago and I asked him this question. He said he understood they would be changing over to 9mm.
