Police: Trooper provided key information on suspect moments before fatal shooting | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

A state trooper who was fatally wounded during a traffic stop in western Michigan played a key role in leading police to the person they believe shot him, authorities said Tuesday

Butterfield stopped a vehicle at 6:20 p.m. in Sherman Township, and three minutes later a motorist called 911 to report that a trooper had been shot in the head. Butterfield, 43, died during emergency surgery at Munson hospital. Sherman Township is about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids.

A vehicle later was found based on the information Butterfield had called in, and police located two suspects some 15 miles away at a gas station in Wellston around 8:30 p.m. Police exchanged gunfire with the suspects, and one suspect was shot.

He was trying to turn around... well he did...he turned into someones pokey cushion. I pray for the day it is legal to remove this scum from our ranks immediately. I'll be the first in line to get a license, and ill even buy the bullet.

May god grant peace and serenity to Trooper Butterfields family, he is a Hero, and they should be proud of him.

More than likely had something in the car that if the Trooper found it would put him in prison for a long time.I see people with families and jobs get busted all the time trafficking drugs.

Yet another good kid who was turning his life around. His girlfriend was pregnant they were happy about becomong a family... they had just moved into a new homa... HOW DARE that state Trooper stop them on the road!

So he shoots the trooper in the head, and drives off. And he's soooo concerned with his girlfriend, and unborn child that he engages in a shootout with the police while she's there with him.

Speaking from experience we all know that there will be days when some officer dont get to go home at the end of the tour. That dont make it any easier. I greive for the man, and pray for his family... I am Proud to call him Brother (Officer).
