20% of C.I.A. Applicants Have Ties To Islamic Terrorism - Cause For Concern?

    Apparently not for some:
“Over the last several years, a small subset of CIA’s total job applicants were flagged due to various problems or issues,” one unnamed agency official said, as Ynet News reported. “During this period, one in five of that small subset was found to have significant connections to hostile intelligence services and-or terrorist groups.”

It would seem a no brainer take a person of verified loyalty with an aptitude for language, have them trained in languages and analytical techniques. It would not have been the short term solution after 9/11 but by now would be paying off.

1 in 5 FLAGGED applicants is not the same as 1in 5 TOTAL applicants as the title implies.

IN BOLD: Apparently it sounds like folks are doing their jobs properly by screening everyone and finding this information out. I do not see why it seems like a negative thing. Would it be better if we were not finding out this information?

Bottom line is the system is working best it can and I do not see where someone is blowing this information off.

No big deal. People have been trying to infiltrate the C.I.A. since it was the O.S.S. Just like we have people trying to infiltrate other people's organizations. All part of how the game is played.

Nothing a whole lot anyone could do about one way or the other.Just like the NSA and IRS scandals. They are going to do what they are going to do,and the public can't do anything about it,other than raise you know what.

Do tell....what scandal is the article about? I thought it was about the government doing a good job about identifying people who were trying to get into the CIA and other positions.

I'd be more concerned if we weren't find applicants with ties to terrorism. This just means that we're catching them in time :)

I would be much more concerned if it was 20% of new hires.

I would be more concerned by the ones they did not flag or catch.

A little math lesson is in order here. It's not 20% of all applicants. It's 20% of "the small subset" or 'flagged' population.

Those are the applicants identified. That does not tell me a lot, other than 20% of a small subset were ID'd as failures.

Of greater concern, 100% of applicants were found to be connected to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less.
