I've been hearing about this all week. Maybe I'm missing something, but if there are still four surviving members how can this be the final toast for the Doolittle Raiders?

(Serious question, by the way...maybe I am just missing something.)

They have become too old and infirm to gather again after this one.

I met Thatcher and Cole. Wonderful men who still remember that day vividly.

This year was to be the final year the remaining Raiders got together in memory of the mission.

If anyone visits the region of Dayton ohio, a trip to the Air Force museum is well worth the time.
The Doolittle display including the reunion goblets is the best display there.

As to the Doolittle raiders, and to the generation which comprised their comrades-in-arms, I am, and shall remain in awe.

I was a human guinea pig at Wright Patt. while attending U.D. in the mid 70's. They told me it was for cockpit ergonomics but I could not figure out how the exercises could determine the goals. Kept me in beer money for a few months.

I am humbled by the greatest generation. In my family there are 2 left alive. 86 and 89 years old. I was born before the war ended and because of that, I had my little head filled with stories of WW2. My mother worked as Rosie the Riveter at the Grumman A/C plant on Long Island, NY. The memories are so fresh and yet so faded.

My Uncle Clarence, who is 93 is still alive. He was an instuctor at a bomber gunnery school. His brother, Knute, deceased, retired as a submariner. Another brother, Karl Helge, also deceased was in the army stationed in England. Three brothers, sons of Swedish emigrants, all enlisted.

Thanks for the links. On the National Museum of the USAF website there is a link for the Doolittle Raider Website at the bottom of the page, right side.
