BTW: I like the Bulgarians. Got to work with a few of them in the Baltics years ago.

The Bulgarians won't be the ones getting trained.

I don't particularly worry about the Bulgarians, but I sure am uncomfortable with the idea of training 5,000 - 7,000 Libyans!

I know you guys were talking about the Libyans LOL....just saying that I liked the Bulgarians. The were very appreciative of the US ending the Cold War.

History is getting ready to repeat once again. Clearly our government hasn't learned the lesson from prior training.

We did it in Southeast Asia about 40 years ago and we trained many in Latin America in the early 80's (most of those wound up working for the drug cartels). The US through the State Department via the CIA and its various sub-contractors has been doing this for years. JMHO.

    Tough situation.

Being an oil state, it'd be a drag if the resources wouldn't be available due to spinning off into failed-state status or falling into another's "sphere" of influence. I can see some of the reasons why to bolster some of their internal security capabilities. Can't imagine it would ultimately threaten things, to have a more-stable state, not due to this training that is. Risks would come from elsewhere, I'd think.

What's new? I can't say I'm surprised... we've been training and arming our enemies since before I was even born.

I suppose we wouldn't have any worthy adversaries unless we trained them first?

It hasn't worked before so if we do the same thing this time it will work because our intentions are pure. You believe that right?
