US Military to Allow Turbans, Other Religious Clothing, Observances

The Pentagon has approved a new policy that will allow troops to seek waivers to wear religious clothing, seek prayer time or engage in religious practices.
    I guess I shouldn't be shocked.

I think the military should have a standardized uniform and stick to it. Those who are not happy with it can stay out or leave. Service is "voluntary" after all.

I have no problem with this so long as it does not affect doing their job. I believe people have a right to their religious beliefs, does not matter if it is different from mine.

They always have been allowed their rights to religious beliefs. That doesn't mean that they should get to incorporate it with the uniform!

We have the same thing up here.

Expect to see R.C.M.P members wearing turbans.

They are also exempted from helmet laws for bicycles and motorcycles.

Usually I wouldn't take issue except for those with more recent service and familiarity, how will this effect protective gear and communication headsets etc.?

I remember being told we could wear any religious items we wanted as long as the uniform covered them.

Not far now from wearing any uniform you want as long as your outer wear covers it......

    What's that flushing sound?

Wonder how they'll fit their helmet over their turban?

Do helmets come in XXX large?

Reminiscent of the Zumwalt (sp?) era in the Navy. It will last until the next change-of-command.

With a beard, gas masks don't seal well against the face. Perhaps the military has forgotten that given where and how it has been fighting the last decade or so.
