    Treasure moments with those who are left. We wouldn't be here now without them. Thank you all, and God bless you.

    I didn't pick up on this right away, but it looks like we lost "Babe" Heffron as well but back in December, per the article:
    In 2007, Guarnere helped write a nationally best-selling memoir called, "Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends," with fellow south Philadelphian veteran Edward J. "Babe" Heffron and journalist Robyn Post.

    William Guarnere Jr. said his father and Heffron met during the war and remained friends until Heffron died in December.

    "Now they're together again," the son said.

    I'm sure they do. We're all still here in arguably the most free nation on earth. We just don't always hear about it.

    I checked the "Easy Company" website and it appears there are only about 6-7 of the original group left. So sad to see men of such caliper pass on.

    The measure of such as they was truly a cut above.

    Band Of Brothers film (2001)

    St. Crispin's Day speech, from Wm. Shakespear's Henry V, Act IV, Scene iii:

    KING. What’s he that wishes so?
    My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
    If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
    To do our country loss; and if to live,
    The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
    God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.

    By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
    Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
    It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
    Such outward things dwell not in my desires.

    But if it be a sin to covet honour,
    I am the most offending soul alive.

    No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
    God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
    As one man more methinks would share from me
    For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
    Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
    That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
    Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
    And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
    We would not die in that man’s company
    That fears his fellowship to die with us.

    This day is call’d the feast of Crispian.
    He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
    Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
    And rouse him at the name of Crispian.

    He that shall live this day, and see old age,
    Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
    And say “To-morrow is Saint Crispian.”
    Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
    And say “These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.”

    Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
    But he’ll remember, with advantages,
    What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
    Familiar in his mouth as household words-
    Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
    Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
    Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.

    This story shall the good man teach his son;
    And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered-
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
    And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

    Rest in peace, brother. You're home.

    It may be time to read 'Band of Brothers' again. Wild Bill was really something.

    There's a book shelf in my office that is full of funeral bulletins of old friends from that generation. I'm going to have to clear off another shelf soon.

    Godspeed soldier. RIP.
    I find supremely ironic that God in his wisdom and grace has given man freedom of choice bounded by 10 simple rules. Man in his finite wisdom has created millions of rules to limit freedom of choice and the personal responsibility of his fellow man.

    He's always up and out of bed before the morning comes
    He mumbles and he grumbles about all that must be done
    There's eighty years of memories that rattle in his head
    Whiskey and cigars that he keeps stashed beside his bed
    He believes the world went straight to hell When Brooklyn lost the Dodgers
    Some say that he's lost his mind
    Some call him an old codger

    Oh, but he's just old folks.....old folks
    Blessed is the child of yesterday
    Love those old folks
    And with a little luck and the lord to see us through
    One day, we will be old folks, too

    She used to bake the sweetest pies I swear I ever ate
    I'd steal the batter from the bowl 'cause I could never wait
    But now her hands are bent and sore; arthritis rages wild
    But you would never know they hurt the way she always smiles
    She believes the world is good and kind but would love warmer weather
    And her grandkids are perfect though sometimes they forget her

    All because she's old folks.....she's old folks
    Blessed is the child of yesterday
    Love those old folks
    And with a little luck and the lord to see us through
    One day, we will be old folks, too

    Oh, with a little luck and the lord to see us through
    One day, we will be old folks, too

    [Thanks to Zack Fulton for lyrics]

    Sung by Ronnie Milsap Old Folks Lyrics - Ronnie Milsap. Album: Other Songs

    May God rest the soul of this great man.
    I would rather die with good men than hide with cowards
    If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
    Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy."
