Marine guard shot to death by colleague at US base

Marine guard shot to death by colleague at US base | kvue.com Austin

Another Story for the Media to sink their teeth into again.

I was surprised that this story didn't awash the 24-hour News spin? Maybe PTSD mantra is valuable when a mass shootings rather a single shooting occurs? Will the Gun-Free zoners cry that the Military shouldn't even be allowed weapons until they actual leave our Country to fight a war? This Marine could have easily shot someone's Family Member driving through the main gate for a quick trip to the PX?

They will likely "suggest" maybe even the MP or Gate Guards should be restricted access to ammo for their service weapons too? Of course, that won't stop anyone from bring their own ammo whether it is 9mm, 45acp or .223/5.56mm, right?

What do you think the Media will spin this story?

Been through that gate hundreds of times... I would have never imagined something like this happening.

The story is short on details. It could have been a ND for all we know.

That is the possibility I was thinking of.

I have seen two fatal negligent discharge shootings while stationed there. Both involved changing of guards at the weapons clearing barrels, and both were from rifles. I would not be surprised if this was another accident.

They are now investigating it as a negligent discharge.

Have I been perfect in my handling of firearms? No. Never with consequences this horrific. My condolences to the family of the dead Marine. There of course will be a reaction I hope this does not make our Marines less safe through negligent bureaucracy. I also hope the tragedy ends here.
