Real Title: State Patrol: Man who brandished gun on I-694 was ATF agent
Article by: TIM HARLOW , Star Tribune

Authorities partially closed a downtown Minneapolis freeway briefly Tuesday morning as they executed a “high risk” traffic stop to detain a motorist who allegedly brandished a gun at another driver.

Turns out the driver who displayed the handgun was an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, a State Patrol report said.

"The State Patrol took the man with the gun into custody. He was questioned and released after officers learned he was an ATF agent who was carrying proper credentials.

His name was not released per Minnesota State Statue 13.82, which states that data would reveal the identity of an undercover law enforcement officer can be kept private."

Well, that's wonderful. So now there's an anonymous armed psycho fed with LE credentials on the loose in the 'burbs. Awesome.

I'll bet they had a chat with his boss, not that the ATF cares.

ATF officer should know better than 'brandishing'. Charge him accordingly, take his creds and let him do the time for the misdemeanor.
He is NOT above the law and should be held to a "Higher Standard".
A Trooper would not have gotten away with such behavior.

The BATFE & Homeland Security are Obummers "National Police" and should be disbanded, Immediately. IMHO

OK. it did not say why he brandished the weapon, but if he had no good reason he should be sitting in a jail cell.

Oh, no. It's legal for the ATF agents to brandish their weapons at the common folk. It's written into their By-Laws.

This kind of junk chaps my hide. I get the need for secrecy for an undercover, for sure, but that stunt should prove he's not fit to work under such stressful conditions, not reinforce his tenure in it.

Picture a cop having to approach a 'nutcase' like this. I learned from ordinary concealed carrying that you need to be more conservative (put up with mouthy clowns). And I live in south florida where every NY retiree has a gun in their car. You start brandishing in my area, and some old fart will follow, and pop, you in a heartbeat. My point being is that brandishing will quickly escalate, and over what, someone not using a blinker. And when someone does that while you are driving - there could easily be an accident.

There are hardly any facts to go on. The headline uses the word 'brandished', but the article states:

"The incident began about 6:40 a.m. on eastbound I-694 in Brooklyn Park, when a motorist called police to report that another driver was displaying a gun. (emphasis added).

Let's get a few more facts before we convict the guy...

If the facts prove that he did brandish his firearm I hope he will be out of a job, but is seems the cops have a different standard.

Depends upon the definition of "brandishing" with each State statute. He could have merely been irritated by another driver who was being an idiot and he decided to further the idiocy and "display" his hangun as an attempt to get the other drivers attention to stop. I don't know I wasn't there, but maybe that was what was happening. People out on our roads are nuts sometimes, I see them all the time when I am at work in the work vehicle and I can't carry a firearm at work.

I am not defending this guy at all, if he was not in any mortal danger he should not have "displayed" his firearm, period. That I believe constitutes brandishing and he should be held accountable, ATF Agent or not.

However, if the gun laws are not enforced upon everyone, including those who enforce them, what good are they?
