New Orleans Eyes Curfew After 8 Slayings

More trouble for a troubled city, I fear....

"Riley said the slayings are a part of a chronic problem that goes back to the city's school system and what he sees as the city's failure, over many years, to adequately educate and provide job opportunities for residents."

Maybe, but perhaps other causes too...?

Well, there are all sorts of Crimilogy/Sociology based theories that can be applied to crime, and a good number of them do deal with education or lack thereof, but that is seldom the only cause. Could a poor education system contribute to such problems, sure, but there is certainly a lot more to it then that. Drugs and gangs come to mind, but I don't really know enough about NO to say if it is either of those for sure. THe lack of opportunitites that would seem to lend itself to Relative Depravation Theory or Social Strain theory. There really is no one reason that will satisfy all of the problems.

Blaming the school system is just trying to pass the buck on and try to make it look like someone else's problem

Wow, what a great idea! Without a doubt a would be murderer is going to stay inside and bake cookies because he wants to obey the curfew. They are just full of great ideas down there.

Failure to educate and provide job opportunities MY @R$3! The only person responsible for your failure to learn or to get a job is YOU!

    Carnival has started

Its that time again, the count down to Mardi Gras. Come on down and catch some beads and if you're unlucky some lead too. I am amazed anyone with a future still lives there. Don't think this is limited to only the 'bad' parts of the city. I have been to Mardi Gras before but never again. New Orleans is too dangerous for my taste. The city is lost to thugs. Plus there is a crazy law that places parades off limits for lawful carry.
