    Southwest Ohio Police Impersonator

    http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.d...WS01/701240375

Someone might be trying to impersonate a Butler County sheriff's deputy to gain access to homes in Hamilton.

Two westside residents have reported that a white male in his mid-20's came to their door and said that he was conducting an investigation. The suspect was dressed in a black deputy's uniform, but not wearing a badge or gun belt.

In one incident, the suspect left with the person's prescription medication.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones advises that residents should call 911 if they want to verify that an officer has been sent to their address. To report similar suspicious activity, call 513-785-1300.
Just a heads up to anyone North of Cincy. These types of home invasions seem to be happeneing more and more around the county. I guess the good news about this one is the moron seems to be unarmed and hasn't hurt anyone yet. Everyone should always verify the identity of someone they let in their house, if you didn't invite them, make sure they are supposed to be there before opening the door.

Seeing as I can go down the street and buy pretty much anything I need to look the part off the shelf what would be the best way to properly identify a true LEO WITHOUT incurring his wrath for not following his directions?
Ask them to wait while you call in and see if he's for real?

I fear the operative word there may be yet. Stay safe, everyone!

If they come to your house and you didn't call them, don't ask them to wait, call 911 and confirm their presence. Don't open the door for them. Odds are if they are real LEO"s they aren't gonna kick down your door if you don't answer in a minute. The Sheriff for the County is reccomending that people call 911 if they don't think the police should be at their door.

On the street, its more difficult, but for home, thats pretty much the way to go if something doesnt seem right.

Yup, just call and verify. You can also ask to see an ID card too. Any real LEO will verify, as there is many easy ways for us do do that. They may get a little annoyed, but who cares about that.
