Holy crap, that was a mess. A good friend of mine grew up there, and just visited for the first time in 15 years this summer. He said things have got far worse, or he didnt know how bad it was when he lived there. Its a beautiful island though...

It's a good thing that they got the fat guy onto the stretcher before he ate another whopper.

    What a mess.

damm a friend of mine has a vacation house on the island his family has had it for years , I did not realise it was that bad down there .

    Edited to add :

It has to be a mistaken report , after all if guns are " illegal " then there is no way anyone could have an ak , or handguns right ??

And just about 2 days ago USCG, CBP, DEA and ICE got ahold of two colombians in a go fast boat with 100kilos of pure cocaine and a silenced submachinegun - this place is getting unreal.

Update - body count is up to 85... a digger/excavator operator murdered his supervisor by pinning him with the backhoe (what a sick way to go).

P95 - Heres the link to the story, it won't be of much use unless you know some spanish. The links will probably die out in a few days as they go into the electronic newspaper's archive.

Man, that was totally insensitive! I mean, the poor guy got his SUV charbroiled to perfection

I can see a Lawsuit coming..."Your honor, the fries were too hot and my truck caught on fire!"
You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.

What's the rate per 100,000 habitants?
    Venezuela's been running 1250 homicides a month or about 40 per 100,000 a year.

This isn't the first time I've been accused of being insensitive. I'll take it as a compliment, if you don't mind.

Unfortunately it's not just PR. The whole Caribbean basin is having troubles like this. They just don't want the tourists to know. I lived in St. Thomas for a while and my son worked at several different locations around the islands for three years before he pulled out a few years back. I don't have the space here to tell all the things I saw! They unfortunately included corrupt feds and worse. What a bloody mess this "victimless" crime of drugs has created.....

man, they're certainly eating better in puerto rico than when i was there with the navy...

on a side note, when i was there, i guess at least 12 years ago, we were driving from rosie roads to san juan to some "bar", the Black something-or-other, and we drove past this mile marker that stated something along the lines of:

    San Juan --- 54km

we drove on. about 10 km later, we came up on the next marker, that said something along the lines of

    San Juan --- 55km

.....and yes, we were going in the right direction.

outside a bar, someone tried to sell me a mitsubishi conquest.... with no dash, no radio, no key....i asked how much, he asked "how much'ou got, say-lah?" i laughed him off, he then started insisting i wait there til he got back with his sister, i'd really like her...

once, in PR, after doing a few $5 trays of rum the night before (the only good thing i can say about that place... cheapest rum outside of the philipines), and missing the bus back onto the station, i decided to run back, try and sweat out some of the alcohol....
i was attacked running down the side of a nicely landscaped paved road by a very disturbed monkey. trust me when i say dont ever actually try to fight one, just run...
