Prayers for the officers families, hopefully he gets caught soon.

According to the article, only one trooper was killed in this incident. This is assuming, of course, that I didn't misread it, which is a distinct possibility, but in my defense the headline does say this: New York Police Search for Gunman Who Shot 2 N.Y. State Troopers, One Fatally. They do reference two troopers being killed in another, somewhat similar incident, but only one fatality this time. Not that one dead trooper is acceptable by any means, but it is better than two...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I'm either blind or just failed to see it I swear the "ONE Fatally" wasn't their.

Man, this is awful. I absolutely detest stories about police officers being shot.

This guy is definitely dangerous, and well-armed.

The hunt for Travis D. Trim, 23, of North Lawrence started Tuesday after Trooper Matthew Gombosi was shot in the torso during a traffic stop in the Margaretville area. Police said Gombosi's body armor saved him from serious injury, but the suspect escaped.
What can punch through body armor but might not kill you? I'm thinking this guy either has teflon bullets, or maybe an AR. Could also have a big caliber handgun, like .44 Mag, but I think most standard police armor will stop even a .44. Could be wrong on that.

Wednesday morning, two more state troopers who had been searching for Trim were shot during a confrontation in Margaretville. "They had a good 20 shots going back and forth," said Chan Squires of Margaretville, who witnessed the shootings. "You could hear them ringing out."
This guy takes on two State Police and puts them both down, one fatally. I'm thinking .223. Either that or both police made big mistakes, which isn't likely. State Troopers are very well trained.

I hope they tag this guy in the gut and let him bleed out for awhile.

I hope they take him out right between the eyes, so he can't ruin someone elses life.

There are a few calibers that will punch through a level 2 or 3 vest; I wont be posting them here for obvious reasons. Also, the vest only covers the chest and back areas... there are plenty of other places to get shot on the body.

The article doesn't say that the shot penetrated Gombosi's vest, it just says that he was injured. I think the most likely interpretation is that the vest stopped the bullet, but that the officer suffered some blunt force trauma from the impact (a common occurrence with soft body armor).
