Colorado Governor Signs Bill Attacking Right-to-Carry!

In yet another move attacking Colorados law-abiding gun-owners, Governor Bill Ritter (D) has signed Senate Bill 34. Under SB34, non-resident concealed handgun carry permits will no longer be honored if the permit holder is not a resident of the state that issued the permit.

For example, a Florida permit issued to a non-resident will no longer be recognized in Colorado. No demonstrated need has been presented to justify SB34, legislation that will potentially threaten reciprocity agreements.

That kinda blows. I get sent to Denver now and then on company business, and I guess I'll have to leave my TX CHL behind next time.

If tho Bob you are TX res and CO honors that, you'll still be OK.

OTOH - I can longer use my non-res FL for CO and my PA res permit is no good there

I live in Louisiana now. I probably should've mentioned that, I just haven't updated my profile yet.

I think there are some other states that have laws like that. I belive that Florida is one of them.

I recall too NH won't honor an FL unless it's a res' version.

I realize there are others - but what chaps my hide is when I see retrograde moves made towards carry. Want to see positive change and not negative.

The logic used by the bill's initial sponser, if I remember correctly, was that they figured all those criminals who wanted a carry permit in Colorado, but were refused one (which, since we're a shall issue state, would typically mean they failed their background check)..would go to "other" states.. because, apparently these mysterious "other" states hand out permits to anyone who wants one, like candy

    Yeah, sometimes..my legislators..aren't so good.

NH only honors Resident permits as well but if you have a Resident permit in any state they will give you one for $20

South Carolina also will not honor non resident permits from those who are not residents of the issuing state. They will issue you a SC Non Resident permit only if you own property in SC.

Kansas does not recognize non resident pemits ether. But I think CO is one of the few states we do honor.

No sense talking to this guy Ritter about how stupid and petty this is, the ears are on the other end of the horse.

I can definitely agree with that sentiment, but in the great scheme of things CCW, this is probably one of the better backslides we could have ever had.

As long as it's the states and not the Federal government taking the whole thing away, we've got a lot of wiggle room to fight and improve.
