    Canadian Snowbird Down

A jet belonging to the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds Flight Demonstration Team crashed today while practicing at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT, killing the pilot.

One killed in jet crash at Malmstrom Air Base

    Jet reportedly crashes at Malmstrom

The Federal Aviation Administration says a Canadian Forces Snowbird plane crashed Friday at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, killing the pilot. The FAA says the pilot was the only person killed in the crash. The pilot's name has NOT been released.

The plane was rehearsing for performances at the base this weekend when it went down. The crash occurred at 3:45 p.m., when a group of planes were practicing maneuvers above the base. FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer says one plane left the formation and "for some reason shortly thereafter pitched down and crashed."

He says no one ejected from the single-engine jet.

The Snowbirds perform high-speed, low-altitude maneuvers in nine Canadair CT-114 Tutors and are part of the Canadian Air Force. The team was scheduled to perform tomorrow and Sunday at Malmstrom's open house and sport auto-rama.

An event organizer says Malmstrom's open house will continue, but was uncertain if the Snowbirds would still perform.

Sorry to hear this. The description of the crash is very similar to the one the recent Blue Angel had.

It's time for us to replace the aircraft they use, they are getting to old.
