I think it would go like this for me.
In this case it looks like I would have gotten a few refills and waited to see what all those cops were doing outside, there must be something really crazy happening next door.
The cops didn't find any BG, who knows if there even was one to deal with. For all we know some snot nosed kid got tired of working and didn't want to make frys anymore and called in a bogus story just to close the store.
Stranger things have happened, well maybe not.

Been there before. Was at a gas station that the silent alarm was accidentally triggered(found out later). I filled up, noticed 2 PD cruisers creating a perimeter. I sat and waited , while scanning the area for possible threats.

I had another thought about the "What would you do in this situation"
I'm sorry, but SWAT team mean Snipers, McDonalds have windows, I wouldn't be too quick to pull my gun if it went into a hostage situation.

The bad thing would have been if there was a CCW there and the police found a gun on him/her. The individual would have been immediately suspect.
One question, how do you "free" people who were never held hostage?
