I've had a rattler crawl out of some tall grass and go between my feet on his merry way and a water moccasin come out of a culvert I was cleaning and stare at me and then pass 6 inches from from my legs. The adrenaline release was too much, rather not have it happen again.

Wisniewski’s supervisor, Sgt. Pete O’Loughlin, has been with the Highway Patrol for 26 years and said he’d never heard of a trooper being bitten by a snake. He took the long view of the incident.

‘‘Well,’’ he said, ‘‘a guy’s gotta have memories, you know.’’
Ummm, yeah. Memories are the best way for this kind of stuff to be. Got to give the guy credit, though. To actually have hit a snake while running after jumping around and getting bit... he's either really good or really lucky.

OK, point taken, but the idea was to show that rural HP troopers have more to worry about than drunk drivers and drug runners.

Maybe I should have posted this in the humor forum.

Given the terrain in the area, no matter where the trooper walked, he was likely to step on a snake.

It could have been a lot worse.

Wisniewski was making tracks toward the highway when he saw yet another rattlesnake directly in front of him. His first thought was to jump over that snake.

‘‘Then I thought, that would really leave me exposed, if you know what I mean.’’

I could insert all sorts of comments here, but just the thought of getting bit in SOME places makes me cringe.

8 PM probably was getting pretty dark so it wouldn't be that hard to miss a couple rattlers...glad he walked away from that one.
