And that's why I LOVE being in the Air Force.

Seriously though, she doesn't load bombs. She was an ammo troop. They just deliver and prep munitions. A buddy of mine deployed from Shady Jay about three years ago and was there when they took that picture. There were a few more pictures that didn't make their way onto the web. (However, in the interest of full disclosure none of them were really that bad.)

I (fondly) remember when that started the rounds. Of course as EOD my primary interest was the bomb!!

The one about the Air Force Cadet and mud just isn't true.

I once saw an 0-3 have to scrap a little mud off of his boot. It was his fault, of course. What with coming to see if us NCO's were doing a proper job of supervising the troops...

Just so there is no misunderstanding, the Air Force is very similar to other branches of the service. There are those who fulfill training, support, medical, and administrative duties--then there are those whose jobs require facing the enemy in combat. Everyone's job is important. My job for 20+ years was to have an airplane strapped to my behind and to accomplish whatever mission was assigned. For over 600 combat hours in Vietnam and Laos that mission was to use the firepower of an AC-130 gunship to inflict the most damage possible to the enemy--and no I didn't get much mud on my feet while doing so.

A general once asked me if I knew the difference between a $2 in flight meal and a $10 one.

    A) The $10 one has the Navs hand already in it.

That should have been the end of the story, but our Nav kept trying to get me to buy him a $10 in flight meal after that he just never got the joke and could not believe that a two star would be telling a joke.
