Anyone else feel offended when civvies make Military jokes?

I would have to say it depends on the intent really. On the other hand my best friend is a former marine and he would take there head off. Course I take every chance I can get to tell him Marine jokes and he just laughs and comes back at me with an Army one. :image035:

I have to tell you, I am the same way.
I was in the Navy. If a Marine wants to tell me I was a little softer than he was, that's OK. If an AF guy wants to tell me he had it better than me, that's fine. But if someone who never served their country at all tells me ANYTHING about how I should have done something in the Military, I just want to tell them to drop dead.

But, it's the nature of things I guess. I try not to let it get to me.

I usually just let it slide... then again telling someone he is a wuss 'cause he was in th AF, that is not a joke (especially when coming from a certain variety of civilian that never served... just my opinion)

btw I stopped paying dues and quietly left one of our big "veterans service organization" because they told my wife that she could join the "auxiliary"

I told them those were not auxiliary uniforms in our wedding photos!

I guess it depends on the intent. Something meant as humor is fine and I'll laugh if it's funny. Inter service humor among vets is usually fine as well. Some vets can take things too far just like some civs. But if it is meant as a slur on service men/women or vets then yeah, I got a problem.

Some military humor just doesn't seem funny unless you've been there though and when told by a civ never really has the same ring to it though!

Well, I won't even think the USAF is soft, But, it was well pampered.

Thanks one and all for the input. Let me add that I'm the last guy in the world that would actually get physical with someone over words. I am a huge comedian, cracking jokes whenever I can (not all of my patients' families appreciated my humor during their crisis) Like many of you said, I try not to let anything get to me. I'm glad I'm not completely alone here.

I agree that it's kinda stupid because someone who has never served has no idea what they are talking about.

The guy who claimed you were somehow lacking for being a wing-wiper without having actually served a day himself... he would have gotten both barrels from me. I had over 15 years to learn to be insulting to people, like superior officers, without ever actually saying anything that could be acted upon. I'm pretty good at it and he would have gotten everything I've got.

As a CPA, I am deeply offended by something said here. :mad:
