    Sheeesh..............It's "Bureaucrats Run Wild" (doing really stupid stuff) all over again! "Well, Sir, it wasn't in the Policy and Protocol Manual".

    Can bureaucrats even think anymore?

    Typical liberal California baloney.

    So what if they had weapons. They are MILITARY. They are MARINES.
    Thats what they do...carry guns.
    I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

    I would comment on the article, but the newspaper has evidently removed the comment link at the end of the story. (Update--now the link is there.)

    This really chaps my posterior...who will the knuckleheads at the Oakland Airport call upon to pull their fat out of the fire if, heaven forbid, something of a terrorist nature happens there?...the Marines, the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, and they'll want everyone who responds armed with firearms and more!

    What has happened to my country?

    Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

    What a disgrace to our country...all/any federal funding for this airport should be removed...

    Tommy

    Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem about this very thing. Sad to say nothing has changed since he wrote it.

    TOMMY

    by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

    I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
    The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
    The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
    I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
    O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
    But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
    The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
    O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

    I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
    They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
    They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
    But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
    For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
    But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
    The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
    O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

    Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
    Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
    An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
    Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
    Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
    But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
    The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
    O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

    We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
    But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
    An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
    Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
    While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
    But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
    There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
    O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

    You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
    We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
    Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
    The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
    For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
    But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
    An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
    An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

    That ceased a long time ago.

    I don't have words for how much better protected I feel when a group of well-armed marines or SEALs (or similar) strolls by. Knowing they're completely competent, professional and able to handle what comes ... there's nothing like that anywhere else in society. Could be, were we to take security and defense anywhere near as seriously. Fat chance, across a society, though. More's the pity.

    Another poem on the same subject, from an earlier time. (IIRC, it was found on a Hessian soldier during the Revolutionary War, or perhaps even earlier on an English soldier during the French and Indian War?)

    God and the soldier we adore,
    In time of war and not before.
    The war being over, and all things righted,
    God is forgotten, and the soldier slighted.

    Sad at how little has changed; except, the war isn't over, yet.

    It got sold out...it's not yours anymore (they just forgot to tell you)...
