I have had to take a few people in for that same reason... before we had tasers. I would have done the same thing the officer in the video did. It's not worth fighting any more now that we have tasers.

Reminds me of the Dan Sayers take-down, awhile back, in which continued howling and protestations were made before the situation was secure. Both of these folks would have been far better off to simply and quietly comply with the initial contact, follow the instructions, provide the requested information at the right time. Refuse to do that, or do that in a manner that dramatically escalates concerns over safety or security, it's rational to expect a more-assertive response.

The driver was a complete jerk. Even if he felt he was completely in the 'right'...it was an inappropriate time to argue the issue. I hope he enjoys his short stay.

the officer had every right to take the guy down.
i would rather he had done it without the taser, but the guy should have just listened.

Yes. That's the deal. Deal with it via mail, or deal with it by having the LEO take you to his office. I don't know too many folks who would refuse to sign in exchange for being able to deal with it later, instead of on the instant of the infraction being claimed.

Whatever else is considered, consider this: How, exactly, is the LEO supposed to distinguish between someone jacked on drugs and a danger to the LEO and someone who's merely blown a gasket and refusing to cooperate? Plenty of the former type attempt to kill LEO's for sport. This person did a fair impersonation of someone who was a brewing threat to the LEO, being on the side of the road and alone as he was, with others in the vehicle.

    Cool

    Guy should have just cooperated.
One thing I noticed that I think could have been done better was that for a long time the guy was face down with his head in the roadway(more or less near the white line). With all of the videos I've seen where a cop has been hit by motorists passing by, I was waiting for a vehicle to come by and run over the guys head. Lucky guy in my mind.

Not sure about today but I know that has not been the strict case in Texas, at least in the past.
Many years ago (when I was a dumb, smart a** kid), I seem to remember that I wouldn't sign one and the officer just wrote on the ticket that I refused to sign. I ended up just paying the ticket anyway.
Signing a ticket is not an admission of guilt, it is just an acknowlegement of the ticket and it's receipt by you.

I just don't understand the ignorance of some people in dealing with law enforcement. They take a minor infraction and turn it into a big deal. The guy could've signed the ticket and headed down the road, then contested it in court, gotten deferred adjudication, or just paid a fine and been done with it.

"I have every episode of Law & Order on DVD. This is violating my civil rights!"

Do NOT walk up behind an officer that is returning to his cruiser unless he explicitly tells you "follow me". As the officer was walking back taser dude follows huffing and puffing and stomping his feet (very confrontational manner) not smart.
