NJ Correction's Officers may carry off duty. Our CO's qualify twice a year under AG Guidelines to do so.

In MA this officers actions likely would have been seen as being unlawful. :(

    Why?
Because the BG following his first shot then changed course and was fleeing (!) thus no longer being a direct threat to the two citizens, one of whom had removed herself from the scene and line of fire.
As well the officer chased the BG around the corner of his home and shot him down as his back was to him.

Personally I feel the officer did the correct and right/lawful thing in defending himself.
But just as an FYI state and local laws and judicial review will and do vary to which we individually should be aware.

Also I'm wondering where did all those security cams come from to capture this event.

Yeah I feel ya HG, and I agree with you 100%.

Sadly past prosecutions by jury of same in MA have not.
Also in this state like several others upon the death of a person regardless of the reason or reasonableness as to why the person who caused the death automatically per state law is required to be drawn up on charges and his case taken before a grand jury.

Yes, MA and other states to is that hosed up.

As a C.O. myself, its never a good feeling when you see one of your ex-inmates out in the real world. Most are cool about it, but there are quite a few I would rather not meet in a dark alley. This is exactly the reason I initially decided to get my ccw permit. State corrections officers here in NC aren't allowed to carry using our i.d. and badge, but our background check for the ccw is expedited at least.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
