Angry Border Patrol Agent Killed in California

Border Cop Dies, Struck by Fleeing Truck
    Published: 1/19/08, 5:25 PM EDT

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A Border Patrol agent trying to stop a vehicle that had illegally entered the U.S. was struck and killed Saturday in southeastern California, agency officials said.

The agent was killed about 20 miles west of Yuma in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, a spot along the border that is popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts and frequently used by smugglers.

The agent attempted to impede the vehicle's progress before he was hit, but the Border Patrol did not immediately have more information, said agent Eric Anderson, a spokesman for the agency's Yuma sector.

Every Border Agent we lose should be a wake up call to this country but I am afraid that the general population is asleep on this issue.

Another sad day for the Border Patrol and almost no one in the country even notices.

You got that right Mike but - maybe this is less ignored than once ....... Glen Beck keeps pushing this and I get the feeling there is a slow groundswell of very disenfranchized folks out there.

The Border Patrol guys are very much kept impotent when it comes to restrictions ...... not to mention the incarceration of ''the two''. But maybe just maybe ... each incident of this type and others is another wake-up call - albeit way too late.

    A sad day indeed.......

Sadly, until we give our border patrol/LE some useable rules of engagement, these things will keep happening.

So Sad! I agree with all of you 100%

    1. The General population is asleep on this issue. What will it take for everyone to stand up and take notice?

    2. As far as I've seen Glen Beck is the only one out there in the media even addressing the issue of Border Security.

    3. The Border Patrol/LE do need some usable rules of engagement.

Speaking from personal experience a buddy of mine who works for the Border Patrol along the Rio Grande River here in Deep South Texas were taking on gunfire from across the river. The Border Patrol along with County Sheriff's and I believe Texas DPS were all taking cover and no one could do a thing to defend themselves because the person in charge on the other end of the radio denied them the authority to return defensive fire. "Take cover & Retreat" were the only options given to them. Thank God my friend along with those other LE agents lived to see another day.

and of course they don't get near enough funding to get enough boots on the ground to realy make an impact.

As I've said many times before, send the Washington big wigs to the AZ border, and equip them with night vision goggles. Then the next day, bring them up to Phoenix and make them walk up 51st Avenue from I-10 to Camelback Road (if they make it). They would understand the issue within two days.

Sometimes, you can't make this stuff up. It wouldn't be too far off the mark for a newspaper cartoon to lampoon the situation ...

    • Policy of smugglers and illegals: run 'em down, run 'em over, run away ... then try again another day.
    • Policy of the government on border patrol agent behavior: use force, get imprisoned for violation of the smugglers' civil "rights."

As they've had years to appreciate the situation, then their understanding cannot possibly be their goal.

+1 Tracy! But I will add a little, They need to be without thier bodygaurds, and unarmed.
I might be speaking out of school, dut unless you live in the South / Southwest, it might be hard to understand the gravity of the situation. I'm not trying to start a flame war here...JMO Rex

My condolences go out to his family & friends. With the federal government working against the BP (Ramos/Campeon, inability to return fire across the border as 2 examples), I don't know why anybody does the job.

Most likely not until it's too late and a lot of people die. Then they will play the blame game and finger point. Then we'll probably invade Canada and declare victory, but our Southern borders will still be wide open...serving as a monument to political correctness and stupidity.
I pray for those defending our Country as well as our Borders.
