Job/career news for me
As of next Thursday, I'll be leaving the stay-at-home daddy & part-time swim instructor gig behind and start at the TDCJ academy for training as a Corrections Officer. This marks not only my return to a professional workplace, but also an entry into a new career.
I just had to share, since I'm pretty excited.

Congratulations! My daughter and son-in-law are both state corrections officers. Great pay, lotta stress. I hope it works out!

Good luck and be safe. Remember you'll be surrounded by thieves, rapist, and murders every second of the day. And inmates too.
Sorry, I guess my prison days jaded me a little.
Seriously, congratulations. Let us know how the academy goes. And don't believe a word any of them say. Remember they have 24 hours a day for sometimes decades at a time to come up with ways to harm you.
Rest In Peace Dad! I love you!!!

It's a interesting career being around the biggest scum in life every day. Just remember that they have absolutely nothing constructive to do except to try to get you to break rules and lower yourself to their level. They care about nothing except themself, and if you drop dead in front of them, they don't care.

Back home after my first week and a half of academy.
My observations thus far.
1) Damn, but a lot of the trainees are young and dumb.
2) The Sergeants are a really cool collection of Corrections Officers.
3) The BOQs are filled with dust and mold.
4) DT (Defensive Tactics) is fun, and really lets you know who is out of shape.
5) The food on the unit is...certainly nourishing.
That's all for now,
