I guess you have to be trained to the level of a college administrator to become STUPID enough to require Police Officers to disarm when they enter the buildings on campus that they are supposed to be protecting. I guess the Dean will protect the cops when they are inside the buildings. What morons!!

"... only carry a sidearm on an as-needed basis."
Hm. When would that be, exactly?

"... not something that needs to be changed at the moment."
Well, that's true. This needed changing years ago, out of sheer common sense.

Don't go there but MI Tech in the UP has armed officers that carry all the time.

At Finlandia, my school, there are two "security officers" that carry pepper spray. I feel safe.

An eight-member force for a ten-thousand student campus...wow. At least they are moving in the right direction. Let's hope that the committee disregards the chief's advice and changes to full-time carry immediately!

CCW for licensed students and staff will never occur at a place like this, I suspect, if the officers of the police department aren't armed full-time first.

Used to live near Delta College, many of our students went there...
Disarming the cops when they enter a building?
Which idiot administrator or board member came up with that idea? Sheeeeesh!

"If the government cant trust us with our guns then why should we trust them with theirs?"

Maybe someone took this literal and dissarmed the cops?

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It is about keeping the government in check. This requires that the citizenry is well armed and at all times has immediate access to arms.

Looks like the herding of willing sheep by a Nanny-Goat society. I wonder if they'll ask Mas Ayoob to come be a guest speaker on campus? Maybe Clint Smith?

How many hundred of hours of instruction do you have to go through to get that d**m dumb????
ANY LEO working there should leave NOW. They've been turned from deterrents into targets.

I thought there was a Federal law that prevented this sort of thing? Is this a fully certified Police Dept?

Yes... Our force here at my University consists of 8 on duty for about 20 thousand students. And that's a recent increase! Sometimes, with shift problems and personnel issues it can be as low as 3 officers on duty third shift. However there is always mutual aid with the adjoining town but... its never enough.

I can tell ya that prior to the VT incident they were ordered not to carry shotguns in the trunks. Those were quickly put back the day after.

You see a lot of times a Police force attached to a College or University is under a branch of that university that would rather "not" act as if it's an unsafe environment. Thereby often wanting to look good rather than BE good. Because a College or University is a Business. It doesn't look good to admit it can not keep everyone safe. And even if you were to DOUBLE or TRIPLE that force you could still not achieve it. Think they want to admit that? No... And quite frankly the Police Dept should not be under the Academic side and often is. So the Academic "politically correct" side makes stupid decisions like this one.

I asked this question before in other threads, but what's so sensitive about a COLLEGE campus that motivates the well-meaning administration to create a gun-free zone? In the light of recent tragic events, why are they turning a blind eye to the reality that their decision gives an open-invitation to the sick predators that exist in every society?

The fragile sensibilities of our little "children" ... despite the fact that many to most at a given campus will be adults.

But, those people are seeing several lessons in action: hosepuckey policies don't do a thing to actually provide security; more-vociferous horsepucky policies aren't an improvement to security; crimes against the constitution involving guns are more acceptable than dozens of deaths and a patent inability of people to defend themselves.

Call it Social Studies 109 -- Practical Civilian Compliance Irrespective Of Effectiveness. It's a course everyone, seemingly, is forced to take. It's about the control and fears. It is absolutely not about results.
