Palatka police officer shot - FOX30Online.com Jacksonville News Leader
A Palatka police officer had to be taken to the hospital Saturday night, after being shot during a traffic stop.
It happened just before 8:00 p.m. on U.S. 17, just south of Carter Road.
Police say Corporal Pete Ruiz stopped a suspected drunk driver, and as he approached the vehicle, the driver, Paul Savage, shot him in the shoulder.
They say Savage got out of the vehicle and continued to shoot.
Corporal Ruiz returned fire, but Savage got back in his vehicle and drove away.
Police caught him in the woods about five miles away.
Corporal Ruiz left Shands Hosiptal in Gainesville this afternoon.
Savage remains in the Putnam County Jail under charges of attempted first degree murder, reckless driving, driving with a suspended liscense, resisting arrest without violence and battery on a police dog.
This kinda nonsense REALLY #@$%^% me off! I hopr he rots in prison for a not-so-nice long visit. I glad to hear the officer alright and recovering at home.
Be careful out there ya'll !!!

That's close to home...
This guy WILL be in the big house for a looooooong time!
There are all kinds of loonies like this in our society, and people wonder WHY I carry a sidearm?
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."
