Border Patrol invests in paintball guns
TUCSON - Some surprising news came from the United States Border Patrol.
The Patrol has purchased 1,000 guns that fire non-lethal paintball or pepper pellets. They have been using the pepper for months but soon paintballs could be unleashed to apparently mark people who attack agents from across the border.
The goal of a target practice session was to hit the white rag at the end of a hall with paintballs. Border Patrol agents may soon use paintballs to defend themselves against smugglers along the border due to an increase in violence.
Surveillance video from an incident last year in El Paso shows a Border Patrol agent retreating after people pelt him with rocks.
Some could argue the same about being hit by a paintball without protective gear.
So using only a helmet for protection, small welt or not, human rights activists say it is a bad idea, even for a line of defense.

That's just crazy.
I'd issue them .50 cal machine guns and declare a freefire zone along the southern border. Miniguns would be available for those that prefer 7.62.

Nitroglycerin filled explosive paint-balls.
Not such a bad idea.
My serious comment. That is a bizarrely insane and stupid idea all the way round.

The assumption that the paintball guns will be used for personal defense is specious and is one made by the writer of the article. What the paintball guns are able to do is allow the Agents to become proficient in point shooting - much like the Marine Corps used to use BB guns.
The Edge ... there's no honest way to describe it. The only ones who know where it is have gone over.
