Gunman Dies After Rare Shootout With London Police

LONDON — Police say a suspected gunman has died after trading fire with officers while holed up in a house in a wealthy west London neighborhood.

Marksmen from Britain's Metropolitan police laid siege to the house in Markham Square in the affluent area of Chelsea for four hours Tuesday after reports of a man firing shots in a house there shortly before 5 p.m.

Armed police exchanged gunfire several times with the man who later died, a police spokesman said on condition of anonymity in line with force policy.

The spokesman said he could not say whether the man was shot dead by officers because an investigation was being opened by Britain's police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

How could this possibly be true? I thought guns were outlawed there.

    Once again, another misprint.

No, the cops were (paintball guns), and the guy died with a lethal dose of red, water-based Sherman-Williams...

Obviously, no one is supposed to have guns. I wonder (any former British peasants here?), do the all of the cops actually have firearms that they practice with regularly?????

I know that 30 years ago the average beat cop never carried or I do believe ever touched a gun, they had special anti robbery units that carried and most of those were Scotland Yard.I would not doubt that there are more armed officers on the street today due to security issues
