Angry Police: Officer kills man who beat child to death--CA: MERGED

    Published: 6/15/08, 7:45 PM EDT

TURLOCK, Calif. (AP) - Police killed a 27-year-old man as he kicked, punched and stomped a toddler to death despite other people's attempts to stop him on a dark, country road, authorities said.

Investigators on Sunday were trying to establish the relationship between the suspect and the child they say he killed Saturday night. The Stanislaus County coroner said the boy appeared to be between 1 and 2 years old based on his size, according to county sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh.

"It's been a long night of wondering, 'Why?' - not only for the officers and the passers-by who stopped and tried to help out, but for anyone. Why would somebody do this?" Singh said.

I cannot believe how somebody could do that to a child,I think the perpetrator should of got a 2000 ft helicopter ride at which time I would test his flying abilitys

Unfortunately not ("A sheriff's helicopter responding to emergency calls from the area landed in a cow pasture at 10:19 p.m. carrying a Modesto police officer who shot the man to death after he refused an order to stop beating the child, Singh said."), but I'm right there with you.

    Now Sixto...

you know that they cant do that...even though he deserved it.

However, if they did shoot, they could have started at his feet and worked their way up...

You're right... but I would have exhaust every option I have before I resorted to gunfire, the policeman's instruction booklet told me so. When I became exhausted from beating him, only then would I shoot him.

Wow. Can't be certain of the child's age, and only an estimate (1-2yrs) can be offered. That's some serious stomping.

They're not of this world. They're lacking some gene, synapse or other element that would make them human, in a few million years' more evolution.

This one's a baby killer. They're going to simply love him in cell block D. Or, would ... had he survived.

This is one where the punishment should fit the crime, it’s a shame he died so quickly and humanely, in his case the eighth amendment should have been revoked on the spot and appropriate punishment administered.

From what I read, the officer was unable to reach the BG because of an electric fence, so he had to reach out to him ballistically.

Which is too bad. I think the BG would have benefitted from spending some time in general population once the word got out about what he did.....

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

That is one of the worst things I have read in a long time
A real man loves his wife, and places his family as the most important thing in life. Nothing has brought me more peace and content in life than simply being a good husband and father.
