    Coastie

Thank you for your up coming service. I also would urge you to get in writing your choice of "A" school.I get to the CG Training Center at Cape May most summers, poor place for guns, but great fishing.
    Good Luck

Spent 4 great years as a Coastie. Just do not become a Gunners Mate, not to many jobs for us on the outside. But had fun playing with them.

You have made a good decision. Here are a few tips.

If someone ask you to go find the relative bearing grease, smile and walk away.

If you are told you need to perform the mail buoy watch and dawn a tin foil hat, smile and walk away.

I spent 12 years in the Coast Guard and have many good memories, enjoy it.

My thanks also for the service you're just beginning!

Also do not go down to the engine room for a bucket of steam. And do not check on the chicken coop on the fling bridge. Remember when the Navy comes into port during a big storm, the Coast Guard go's out.

    You could become a SEAL...

The US Navy and the US Coast Guard have just signed an agreement that will allow Coasties to attend BUDS and become SEALS. From what my buddy told me, the Navy has been onboard with the idea for a while, but the flags at Coast Guard were standing on the breaks. Now the plan is full steam ahead. Probably going to be pretty rough on the first Coasties to go through, but in that type of environment...how the heck will you be able to tell if they are picking on you specifically. So, congrats on your decision and congrats to the Coast Guard.

Of course he is! Other wise he wont be able to walk ashore when his ship sinks.

Seriously, from a retired Navy Chief. THANK YOU! Enjoy your service, and as someone else said, the Sea is your mistress. I always hated leaving the wife and kids, but could not wait to get back underway.
