Shots Fired Aboard Plane in Miami

OK, (not having read through this whole thread) a point that my son and I both came up with is that it keeps getting reported that he was mentally ill and his wife allegedly shouted that as he was running through the plane declaring he had a bomb, as though that should have swayed the air marshalls from shooting him. If someone is mentally ill, shouldn't we be MORE likely to believe he has a bomb?

I have also heard of a TIME report that some passengers said they did not hear him say he had a bomb.
