Tarrytown cop found guilty on charges of child porn, possessing a machine gun
WHITE PLAINS (NY) – A federal court jury Tuesday found a Tarrytown police officer guilty of receipt and distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and possession of an illegal, unregistered fully automatic submachine gun.
The trial against Anthony Rypka, Jr., in White Plains, lasted one week.
Rypka was convicted of one count of distributing and receiving child pornography, which carries a sentence of five to 20 years in prison; one count of possessing child porn, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years; one count of possessing a machine gun, which carries up to 10 years in prison; and one count of having a firearm that was not registered to him, which carries up to 10 years in prison.
He will be sentenced next January.

i hope he serves the sentences consecutively. what a scumbag. i can rationalize a lot of behavior, good or bad; sexualizing children is not one of those behaviors.

Most of those charges are state jurisdiction, the Machine gun is a Federal.
He can be trieds both in civil court and Federal. If convicted in a Federal court he is "toast on the barby" for some time.

If not solitary, definitely protective custody. He's got 2 strikes against him going into prison. 1. He had child porn.2.He was a cop.

+1, Sixto. I wouldn't want to go into prison for any reason after being a LEO, but it would be worse if you had any type of offense involving children, as even criminals have a hierarchy and anything involving children is at the bottom.

There have been a few situations very similar to this brought to light over the past month and a half. Others involve misappropriations of funds or personal use of evidence taken in drug raids, and the like. I've heard of some committing suicide before having to face the music. LEO's are subject to the same evils and human weaknesses found the world over. It's just ten times as bad when they are found out. It's also a crushing blow to those who place somewhat of a trust and esteem for the LE positions, and it tends to make a whole lot more of them look bad as a whole compared to any civilian having perpetrated similar crimes vs. humanity. I think deep down, we can all pretty much figure the odds of this one's survival in prison long term. I think justice will be done.
