    Any of you Texans participating in the National Night Out?

    So, it's that time of year again...National Night Out. Texans are encouraged to lock their door, turn their porch light on, and get together with neighbors and local police.

    National Night Out - About NNO
    NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

    Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
    Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
    Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
    Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

    My HOA newsletter said we are doing it no Oct. to avoid the August heat.

    I think I will be, sounds fun and we've never done one.

    Also a good time to clear fields of fire and set out FPL stakes (interlocking with those of one's neighbors).
    The Edge ... there's no honest way to describe it. The only ones who know where it is have gone over.

    I guess that one in August was for the United States.

    I have been telling my friends back in Maryland this place is like another country/planet. I guess this just proves me right!

    Yep, we did it on our block. We didn't lock our door though, and I don't think anyone else on our block did either. I am guessing that there were somewhere between 20 and 25 local leo's that showed up, including several detectives, a leutenant, and a captain, and one truck of firefighters/emt's.

    We had around 30 to 40 neighbors and friends show up. We served brisket, ribs, chicken, pork chops, hamburgers, sausage, hot dogs, beans, potato salad, tossed salad, red beans and rice, corn bread, Red Lobster cheese rolls, coblers, pies, and gave away some Walmart gift cards.

    For our first one on this block I think it went very well. The officers said that the food at ours was better than any of the previous ones they have been too. If nothing else, we found out that folks on our block can definately cook. I knew, or have talked to about 5 of the officers that showed up.

    I believe we will be doing it again next year, and expect that there will be more leo's and firefighters show up. I have a suspicion that they were radioing and letting others know where the good food was.

    Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

    Talk about a perfect opportunity to help ease folks into the notion of carrying for protection... I wish I'd have known about this earlier!

    My neighborhood has been going down hill the past few years. They are the reason I keep to myself and my doors locked.
