Try TogetherWeServed.com. It's almost like a MySpace for veterans. You can search for members of that site by name, units, dates.
TogetherWeServed.com is a fairly new site and one place to try. I'd say you might stand a better chance at military.com.
Depending on what kind of unit/job you were in, try the obvious, Google...... You never know what will show up.
