I'm a Federal LEO, but not one of the ones you listed.

Most don't consider my people LEO's, but we are.

Joined what? This forum: Because I wanted to know more about carry my weapon. Work: Because I had a brain fart and then decided I actually like this stuff.

Like about my job?: Hmmm. It's a good job. Compared to being a street cop, I think I like it better (haven't been a street cop, so I can't say for sure). I do know it's nice being able to do searches without needing RS or PC.

Dislike about my job?: Little to no backing from management and that I'm a forgotten cop by the rest of society (if not reviled by society just because they are erroneously led to believe that we are all sadistic POS thanks to the media).

I retired almost ten years ago from school administration.

Moved to FL because we got sick of snow...driving my wife nuts, I took a teaching position in a local high school. Sometimes I feel like a cop without a gun, but I've never wanted to be a cop.

I have been on other sites but was usually discouraged by the jerks and lack of control of the posters.

When I found this site I began to enjoy the info, the laughs, and the strict use of 'reasonable rules'.

I've been around for a while, I have learned a lot, I laugh out loud almost every night, my wife thinks I spend too much time here. Sometimes I even jump on during breaks at school.

I'm here in the late evening, early morning, and most of the weekends.
I've had a chance to meet up with a few posters and that's always interesting to put a face with an avatar.

    I salute you all...

Stay armed...be respectful, but always carry a gun...stay safe!

    Husker,

Before you get your panties in a wad check out the poster's profile.

He/She is a Federal Correctional Officer. Yes Husker, Correctional Officers are considered LEO's in the federal system. Also, they don't need PC to do a search.

As for myself, I'm a LEO, federal.
I do not post what agency I work for because I do not want anything coming back to bite me in the rear end later due to something I may have posted.

Why did I join? That's easy, the retirement. What do I like? The work is pretty easy. What don't I like? Lame co-workers that are allergic to breaking a sweat and bureaucratic managers that can't stick their neck out and make a decision.

News to me. I've only worked with county and state correction staff. They are NOT certified LEO's around here. At least I understand the "no need for PC" statement then. Why in the world are they considered LEO's???

Anyway, back to the question. I joined because I needed a job, and have always been a risk-taker. Motorcycles, skydiving, scuba, etc. The twenty year retirement was a great bonus. What did I hate? Nothing until the last few years when the PC crowd worked it's way into the upper administration, darn near making our jobs impossible. No way in the world could I put up with the politics today!

I've never been a LEO of any kind. Sure am glad some of you are. Thanks for doing a frequently thankless job.

I had to mark retired even though I am not a retired LEO. I am a former LEO, of the Military type and the Reserve Deputy type.

And I hope to become an active duty LEO in the next year after my current Ortho Doc fixes my knee up next month.

Because they can arrest you, a non federal inmate, for violating certain federal laws, on federal property or not.

Lots of CO's in various states are considered LEO's too. NY, CA, NJ, etc. Plus there are tons of Counties that give their Detention Deputies arrest powers too.

Besides, even without arrest powers, CO's are still LEO's in my book. To the inmate we're the cops. We walk a beat that is very small and only includes them, but we still enforce rules/laws. They hate us every bit (usually more) than the street cops. Even if certain CO's are not officially considered LEO's, they are every bit as much a cop as the guy giving you a ticket.
