    Just asking for opinions here

What do you think would have to happen in the USA to cause an armed uprising by the citizenry?

Super high Taxation? Arms confiscation ordered? Nationalizing aspects of the economy such as the oil industry or others?

And do you think it is possible to even fire up the lazy and all too often stupid general population of this country to the point that they would be willing to rise up and over throw a tyrannical government?

An ORGANIZED uprising? I don't ever see it happening no matter what actually. Folks just can't seem to get together and work as a team any more. Every man for himself. You may see small groups or communities rebel, but of such small size that they would easily be suppressed and crushed by the opposition forces almost as quickly as they came about. Might I be a part of something like that in specific instances? Maybe, but I know there are way too many back-stabbing individuals out for nothing more than their own selfish causes in today's world, and most won't have the guts to stand up to the establishment once their very existence is threatened. Terrorists are more than willing to die for their cause. The general American public is not---the majority are very weak minded, and this undermines a large, organized opposition force. Sad but true.
What would it take to cause an armed uprising in the USA?
A government shut-down of the banking system? Again....I think the idea of an ORGANIZED uprising of the citizenry is almost out of the question.
I don't think the sheeple would ever rebel
This probably sums it up, and pretty much negates the idea of any "armed uprising" by the general population. Individuals will be making their stand and dying for their own principles. The rest will be more than happy to be led into submission.

Only if the basics disappear. Turn off the electricity, water, close the stores - especially food markets. Do that for about a week, and then there will be civil disorder.

    Unfair taxation of Tea.
Door to door confiscation of television.
Forced Govt. shutdown of all fast food establishments.
    Banning last minute Christmas shopping.

Really who can predict what the exact future trigger would be even if one exists...which I doubt.

An attempted confiscation of firearms could make a bit of a mess in the streets but, remember that gun owners are still a minority in the United States.
Example...even though lots of people are licensed to carry a firearm in PA...still only about 4% of the state population.
Of that 4% my guess is that more than half would hand over their firearms willingly. My guess is that the people who actually CARRY a firearm are somewhat more actively Pro 2nd Amendment than gun owners (in general) that just have a hunting rifle or shotgun in the home.

Personally I don't think confiscation will ever happen. The anti gunners have lots of time. They are slowly poisoning young minds against all firearms.
They are being modestly and slowly successful at demonizing all firearms and firearm ownership and hunting plus creating a nation of coddled government dependent mindless baby brained apathetic wimps.
Why would they risk a possible "rock the boat" violent confiscation?
They are incrementally reaching their ultimate goal/objective.

out of the 8 million gun owners in America the majority would probably hand over their guns easily. Small factions would band together and defend what their God Given Rights.

I hope it does not come to this, but We are young as a Country and if one looks through the history books most powerful countries go through times of uprising and civil strife. Rome did, So did England. It COULD happen, but I don't think it will in my lifetime. IF it does, I am prepared, and will defend my family, home, and my rights against anyone or anything that tries to take them.
Obama used "hope" and "change" to win the presidency.... Benjamin Franklin wrote in Poor Richard's Almanac, "He that lives upon Hope will die fasting." On change, John Adams wrote, "A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."

We are a nation of cowards, with a news media that is printing garbage from the 'left' and forcing it down everyone's throat. Many people believe what they hear and read.

If our infrastructure should begin to collapse, I more concerned about armed gangs and roaming dirtbags trying to take what they can (Argentina, 2001).

I don't think that guns will be banned all at once, but if we get a liberal leadership in this nation, our firearm ownership will be methodically chipped away. I'm in my 60's, and I may not see the eventual results...it's going to take a while...lots of ground work. (SCOTUS changes could pave the way.)

I put "I don't think the sheeple would ever rebel" mainly because we are not the same nation that would take up arms in defense of its liberties as in the 1700's, we are also not the same nation that would march on Washington for these same reasons or we would be doing it now.

We are already over taxed by income, capital gains, marriage, property, tolls, gas tax, cigarette tax, sales tax, even the death tax.

I think if our Military were ordered to confiscate the people's arms, and they did it, there would be small uprisings that will be squashed in short order.

We are already seeing the nationalization of private business by means of Freddie Mac, Fannie May, Govt. sponsored bailout (there will be strings to this one), Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, even down to local Govt. like Dallas City Council has approved a $500M city run hotel at the convention center.

Folks we are already on the sad side of the slippery slope to Socialism, my prayer is that we have not began to loose our footing so much that we can't regain traction and right this direction back to where our founding fathers and all those who bled and died for this democracy intended it to be.

If something like this would ever come to pass a large part of the military would not be willing to participate. Unless the military has changed an awful lot since I retired, the vast majority follow lawful orders from those appointed above them - the catch is Lawful Orders.

ORGANIZED is, indeed, the key word. The only time I've seen an organized movement of the sheeple is when a TV show gets yanked (Jericho comes to mind). Mess with the people's TV shows and watch out!

It is difficult to predict what it would take to cause an armed revolt in America. Like some have pointed out, the sheeple are so reliant on government handouts, that they might never revolt, no matter how repressive the government might become.
On the other hand, the eviction of a priest from his apartment, was all it took to start the 1989 Romanian revolution, which succeeded in toppling that country's communist government, by an unarmed populace.
In the USA, all members of the military have sworn to defend the constitution from enemies "foreign and domestic". So hopefully our military would stage a coup against any dictator wannabe who violated the constitution and charge him with and execute him for high treason.
Surrendering our sovereignty to the UN might just do the trick. I could see that happening under an Obama regime.
Kind of off topic, but a good movie featuring an armed revolt is Errol Flynn's "Edge of Darkness".

Let's take these one by one.

    Over taxation
Well, back in the 1960s, tax rates were as high as 90%

Military ordered to confiscate private weapons
New Orleans anyone? More the local police, but it did happen.

    Nationalizing private industry
The Federal government just nationalized the banking industry. They have mostly nationalized health care. They are working on a few others.

    OK. What else you got?
