Any suggestions or food for thought to a 23 yr old guy with no military or police expirience... who's mind the thought had crossed more than once. But, has no idea what he'd be getting into, and know even less about how to get into it.

When I was in the police academy in Baltimore an old timer came in and addressed the class. He was a major and had been in the department for 20+ years. He told the class, "If you stay in law enforcement long enough you will realize there are three kinds of people in the world. Cops, a$$holes, and a$$hole cops."

That is not to say that all officers will gain this outlook, but it can happen if you do not keep a positive mental attitude and keep focused on going home at the end of the shift. Depending on where you work, police work can eat you up. I can honestly say I am not the same person I was before I got into law enforcement, but I would not trade it for the world.

Do what your heart tells you. And good luck.

There's been some good advise so far. As to the initial question:

"Any thoughts from you LEO's on how much you like or dislike your job?"

    I love my job.
