Our SRO just got back from a Conference of High Schools and Terrorists.

The NASRO Conference of School Safety was held in Phoenix. The main speaker LTC Dave Grossman said that the American Schools nerar the border and those near military bases particularly in jeopardy.
He went into detail about the Assault on Beslan and how it could happen here.
He want's SRO's much better armed and for Teachers who are Veterans and have their CCW permits to be armed in the school He wants the SRO to have an immediate action plan with these teachers.
My SRO and I are doing that and I will keep this forum advised as I can.
(I am the wrestling coach at a school 14 miles from the border)

Perhaps you are a former school admin. Our SRO told me that when he presented the information to our Principal he was actually glass eyed out of the room. Thse people are absolutely in denial that anything could happen.

Well, that's not something you see every day. I wonder what the terrorists had to say, at such a conference. Good to see they're starting to work out their differences.

Seriously though, any frank discussion that involves Lt.C Grossman would be worthwhile.

Prhaps they were listing to the , "Can't we just work it out?"
Again seriously, that Grossman was at a conference like this shows just how much someone is taking it seriously.

I teach and I had a hypothetical conversation with our SRO. He's in favor of carefully selected teachers being allowed to carry at school. We say carefully selected because have you ever met loonier adults than some teachers? Yeesh.

one of the most psychologically impacting events would be for terrorists to hit schools all around the country in a coordinated attack
just one or two persons with rifles/nades hitting schools in cities all around would be catastrophic

and our schools are not prepared for it
more importantly....the American public isn't prepared to deal with people that want to kill us, or to allow people to stop these people when they rear their ugly heads

Schools are sadly one of the biggest soft targets in our country....the few that have been targeted by homicidal maniacs have proven that.

For an eye opener, read "Terror at Beslan" by John Giduck of the Archangel Group. ISBN-10: 0976775301ISBN-13: 978-0976775300

Glad to see someone else is pushing this info out to LE and Schools... I feel like I am talking to a brick wall when I discuss this with teachers. Many LEO dont seem to realize what a real threat this is - mostly guys and gals who have done nothing but city policing. Most of the younger, prior military types I have talked to have been very receptive to learning more about Beslan and OBL's threats to American schools.
