I was expecting mop handles, not rifles. Pretty good!

They do look good, but the best in my opinion (and I hate to say this being Army) has got to be the Marine Silent Drill Team.

Not bad for a branch of the military that isnt issued a rifle. Makes me proud.

Are my tired and stuffy eyes playing tricks on me or did they have fixed bayonets on those rifles!?!

    Very impressive.

    Very impressive.
Not to take anything at all away from the performance, but I doubt the guns are or the bayonets real . If you think about it, rifles weigh a bunch, and spinning them that fast and stopping them that fast would be quite difficult and tiring. I do know that 'drill guns' are sometimes used. They are look like the real thing, but they are quite light and 'safe'. If you notice, in the pic where the bayonets are all around the leader, the bayonets appear to be taped onto the rifles.

    Still, very impressive drill!

To my knowledge, from doing a little (and I do mean 'little') honor guard work; and please someone who has been there, done that, chime in; those are all real. bayonets are not 'sharp', and they are taped to keep them from coming off during all the flyin' around. Wouldn't do to have an errant bayonet stuck into the L.T.!

WHAT! That's the point, They train a lot. I'am the old Navy 1966 to 1969, at that time the drill rifles were real. They said the weight helps them, how, don't know.

Is there any truth to the rumor that after Inauguration Day 2009 that all military drill teams will have 30 days to switch over to rubber guns?

I couldn't tell what weapon they were using. Do most teams still use the M-14?

The Sailors looked great, but they are second... a close second.
