You're right, you have to take into account Policy and procedures... but those are guide lines, not law.

Do as you want, but a lot of experianced guys are telling you different.

Hopefully in six and a half months, I'll be where you are. Congratulations!
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?

Welcome to the team. Listen to the old dogs young pup! Keep your permit. LEOSA will not cover you if, like SIXTO said, the politicians change their mind about things. Additionally, there is always the possibility that eager, headstrong young cops can get cough up in "stuff" and wind up on the bench. If you are suspended, for whatever reason, LEOSA won't cover you and you'll be missing your CHL.

There will be a time when you don't want to bring up LEOSA and just be a plain Joe.

And make sure the blue line doesnt get to thick, be sure to keep up your excercise and eat right. I know that that sounds stupid, but its all to easy to fall victim of the drive thru. That kills more cops than gunfire.

that was drilled into our heads in class and everyday in PT

I don't have to worry about that, I was in decent shape before the academy from officiating college and high school basketball, now its even better, even for a 36 year old rookie, and I plan on getting even stronger and staying healthy
I'll be bringing my own snacks/lunch to eat between calls since most of the time there isn't time to eat

Congrats on becoming a law enforcement officer.

If it wasn't for my bad left hip, I'd certainly apply to be a sworn officer.
